Surgery

Surgery is scheduled for Monday afternoon (August 11th) at MUSC with Dr. Patel. One reason we're so very optimistic is that indications are Rod will be kept at the hospital possibly for only 24 hours following surgery! Can you believe it???

Ok, Rod...is Dr. Patel taking time away from the Ramada Inn to do your surgery? Do you get a free continental breakfast the next morning. All things to think about.

Rodney--Does having surgery mean you have to shave? God, I hope so! Didn't realize you were only 54. You don't look a day over 60. Your doctor probably has no idea how fortunate he is. I'll bet he has no idea how many people all over South Carolina would love to get a look at your brain. Wishing you the best!

Rod,

My Father had a brain tumor, and even though I do not know what you are going through personally, I do know what your family is.

I will keep you in my prayers for a successful surgery that will lead to a speedy recovery.

It is good to know that Oscar is assisting you. He is a good man to have on your side.

Best regards and if there is anything that I can do, please let me know.

Rod, Maybe this is payback for all the times you: chased me off the bus each Wednesday and smacked me if I got"The Journal" before you did; denied having a younger sister in high school (although all the teachers and especially the administration seemed to know you were my brother-thanks a lot- Mr. Fulmer was especially "fond" of you and the way you already knew exactly how far to push the envelope); wouldn't let me in the fort when Stan was there (but didn't mind when Carey was there);put all the monkey posters at school;wouldn't let me help with the haunted house; made me put my hand in the bowl of "eyeballs" in the haunted house; twisted the truth around to Ruth just enough so she couldn't really be sure which one of us was telling the truth (it was ALWAYS me), although I suspect she really could see through even you. And about your falling out of the car, that's what you get for always inching too far past the line between my side and your side.Just to let you know, on the first California trip, the air conditioner didn't reach the luggage compartment either. I realized long ago that I am the one you whetted your shrewd techniques on.."let me see just how much I can pick on Cric and get away with it." (this was pre-Shawn and Lorri era). I could go on but you get the picture. In spite of all the childhood torment I endured as the younger sister of a genius who I now realize knows how to get away with a LOT of stuff, I am still praying for a full recovery, physical recovery, that is..we all look so forward to your emptying the junk drawer at Christmas.

Rod
Please know that we are all praying for a speedy recovery from your surgery. I look forward to many more interesting holidays with you...or should I say interesting situations (i.e. where you called my soon-to-be mother-in-law's dessert, gunk)!
Much Love

Rod - I am praying for your full recovery. Over the weekend, when I put Christopher to bed hurriedly and too late one night, I rushed through his prayers and headed out the door. He called out, "Mom, aren't we going to say the special prayer for Uncle Rod so that he feels better?" (We did.)

Also, many people in the autism community from all over the country have sent their prayers and well wishes, as they know that it was your advice and strategy that led to the passage of groundbreaking new autism laws in South Carolina and lit the fire for reform in other states.

Get well soon and fight this thing off!

Love,
Lorri :-)
